Medina Sidonia
We drove past this town every morning and every evening.
Our curiosity finally got the better of us and we decided to pay
a visit. We were really in for a treat. I may be an athiest, but
I am ALWAYS in AWE of the incredible feats humanity has accomplished
in the name of GOD. The church we found at the top of the hill
was as magnificent as Charte and Notre Dame. The careful workmanship
is seen everywhere. The story is that Cadiz, which is about 50
miles away, was (and still is) a major seaport, hence subjected
to invasion. The town was pillaged several times centuries ago.
To preserve the valuables of the church, they were moved to Medina
Sidonia. There are more than 50 photos on several pages. I assure
they each one is a treasure to behold and a strong statement on
the influence of religion not only then, but now.
This page leads you up the streets, ever narrowing,
to the town square which we thought was the main sight in this
town. But we met a "mafia" type who demanded money to
"watch our car". We did not pay him. He leaned on our
car as we strolled the square with our eyes over our shoulders.
Finally we decided, he was not worth the worry, so we drove on.............
Towards the top of the hill, in the older section,
we spotted an old cobblestone road, quite steep and narrow. We
followed it to the very top, where lies the original town center...........
